ExTiX 18.8 with Deepin 15.5 Desktop, Refracta snapshot, Calamares 3.1.12 Installer and kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix – Build 180807

NEWS about ExTiX 18.8 Deepin 180807
I’ve released a new version of ExTiX 18.8 Deepin today with Calamares 3.1.12 and kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix. Calamares is an installer framework. By design it is very customizable, in order to satisfy a wide variety of needs and use cases. All packages have been updated to the latest available version as of today. Study all installed packages in ExTiX Deepin Build 180807. ExTiX is based on Debian and Ubuntu 18.04.1.

About ExTiX 18.8 with the Deepin 15.5 Desktop
I’ve made a new extra version of ExTiX with Deepin 15.5 Desktop (made in China!). Deepin is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. Only a minimum of packages are installed in ExTiX Deepin. You can of course install all packages you want. Even while running ExTiX Deepin live. I.e. from a DVD or USB stick. Study all installed packages in ExTiX Deepin.

Refracta Tools
While running ExTiX Deepin 18.8 live or from hard drive you can use Refracta Tools (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. A ten year child can do it!

About Calamares Installer
Calamares is an installer framework. By design it is very customizable, in order to satisfy a wide variety of needs and use cases. Calamares aims to be easy, usable, beautiful, pragmatic, inclusive and distribution-agnostic. Calamares includes an advanced partitioning feature, with support for both manual and automated partitioning operations. It is the first installer with an automated “Replace Partition” option, which makes it easy to reuse a partition over and over for distribution testing. Watch a movie when I’ve started to install ExTiX Deepin using Calamares. See also a slideshow below showing the whole Calamares install process.

Using Calamares you can choose language when the installation starts. When it’s ready everything will be in your chosen language!

Used KERNEL

My special kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix+ corresponding Kernel.org’s kernel 4.18-rc5. You can download “my” kernel if you want to use it another Ubuntu/Debian system. My kernel is patched so that you can install Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver if you like.

What’s new in Linux kernel 4.18?

ExTiX 18.7 – “The Ultimate Linux System” – with LXQt 0.12.0, Refracta Tools, Calamares Installer and kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix – Build 180723

I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 18.7 LXQt Live DVD. (The previous version was 18.4 from 180419).

ABOUT
ExTiX 18.7
LXQt DVD 64 bit is based on Debian 9 Stretch and Ubuntu 18.04.1 Bionic Beaver. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Gnome. After removing Gnome I have installed LXQt 0.12.0. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version of LXDE, the Lightweight Desktop Environment. It is the product of the merge between the LXDE-Qt and the Razor-qt projects: A lightweight, modular, blazing-fast and user-friendly desktop environment.

The system language is ENGLISH.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix corresponding Kernel.org’s unstable kernel 4.18-rc5. You can download “my” kernel if you want to use it another Ubuntu/Debian system.

What’s new in kernel 4.18?

NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 18.7 Build 180723 with the LXQt Desktop environment
1. ExTiX LXQt is based on Ubuntu 18.04.1 Bionic Beaver. LXQt 0.12.0 is used as Desktop environment. All packages have been updated to the latest version by 180723. Kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix is used. (Kernel.org‘s kernel 4.18-rc5).
2. Firefox has replaced Google Chrome as Web Browser. It’s now possible to watch Netflix movies also in Firefox (while running Linux).
3. I have replaced Ubuntu’s installer Ubiquity with Calamares Installer. Calamares is an installer framework. By design it is very customizable, in order to satisfy a wide variety of needs and use cases.
4. Other included important/useful packages are: LibreOffice, Thunderbird, GParted, Brasero, SMPlayer, GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Furthermore “all” multimedia codecs. Everything the average Linux user could wish for I would say.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL about ExTiX and especially the new version from 180723?
1. The ExTiX ISO’s are ISO-hybrids, which means that they can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can even run ExTiX from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence!
2. Another big improvement is that both ExTiX versions can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 4 (Load to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc (DVD) or USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run ExTiX that way. Running from RAM means that the system will run faster than from DVD or USB stick. Everything will be superfast I would say!
3. All packages have been upgraded to the latest version by 180723.
4. I’ve replaced kernel 4.16.2-exton with kernel 4.18.0-rc5-extix (Kernel.org‘s unstable kernel 4.18-rc5). “My” kernel is patched so that you can install Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver if you like.

RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and Model B+ – Build 180717 – with Google Play Store, Aptoide TV and TeamViewer

NEWS 180717: My build of RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 is ready. It’s the first RaspAnd build with Android Oreo 8.1 and the first RaspAnd build to work on the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. All installed apps (including Google Play Services and Google Play Store) have been updated to the latest available version by 180717. Read about all other included apps below. While downloading RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 Build 180717 you will also get RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 180529, which works much better than RaspAnd Oreo 8.1.

NEWS later 180717: I’ve also uploaded a mini version of RaspAnd Oreo 8.1. It has only the absolute necessary apps pre-installed. I. e. GAPPS (Google Play Services with Google Play Store) and a Browser – Via Browser (Fast and Light – Geeks Best Choice). Watch a screenshot showing all installed apps in the mini version of RaspAnd Oreo. The mini version of RaspAnd Oreo is somewhat faster than the “big” version. The advantage is also that you can install the apps you really need. REMEMBER: The fewer apps you have installed the faster RaspAnd will run.

MORE ABOUT RaspAnd Oreo
RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 Build 180717 is an Android 8.1 Oreo system which can run on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and Model B+. I have included the following apps.
1) GAPPS (Google Play Services with Google Play Store) in latest versions.
2) Spotify is not installed. Install version 4.6 via Google Play Store. It works very well!
3) Google Play Games (needed for for example Clash of Clans to run)
4) TeamViewer  – control other computers from your Rpi3!
5) Via Browser
6) Firefox
7) CM Browser
8) Aptoide TV  (for installing new apps which can’t be found on Google Play Store – many many apps can be installed!)
9) ES File Explorer 4.1.7.2 working very well
10) AIDA64
11) Termux 0.60 – a very special terminal. (Use the APT package manager!)
12) Quick Reboot Pro 1.8.4
13) YouTube – unfortunately not all videos will run or they will run with bad video or sound quality (especially if you use the whole screen)

RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (not B+) – Build 180707 – with Google Play Store, Aptoide TV and TeamViewer

NEWS 180707: My build of RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 is ready. It’s the first RaspAnd build with Android Oreo 8.1. All installed apps (including Google Play Services and Google Play Store) have been updated to the latest available version by 180707. Read about all other included apps below. While downloading RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 Build 180707 you will also get RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 180529, which works much better than RaspAnd Oreo 8.1.

RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 Build 180707 can be used with the official Raspberry Pi 7 inch touchscreen and Big TV Screens

Thanks to a member on this site who asked for support for the Raspberry Pi official 7 inch touchscreen I started to experiment with different configurations. Success!

Experimental Build
Build 180707
of RaspAnd can be downloaded for free by those who have purchased RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 180529 (and previous versions of RaspAnd 7.1.2). That’s because RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 can be considered as “experimental”. It doesn’t work as good as RaspAnd Nougat. Fewer monitors/TV screens can be used and the performance is slower. You must be aware of the fact that the Raspberry Pi 3 computer has its limitations and that Android Oreo 8.1 is a very advanced Linux system.

MORE ABOUT RaspAnd Oreo

RaspAnd Oreo 8.1 Build 180707 is an Android 8.1 Oreo system which can run on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. RaspAnd can not yet run on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+.
5) Jelly Browser

10) Quick Reboot Pro 1.8.4
11) YouTube – unfortunately not all videos will run.

ABOUT Android 8.1
Version 8.1 is the latest Android system by now. Released on December 5, 2017.

KNOWN ISSUES re. RaspAnd Build 180707
1. Not all apps will run in RaspAnd Oreo. You can for example run the popular (?) Clash of Clans very well, but not Angry Birds. Many many apps will run without problems though.
2. You can’t run Netflix.
3. Bluetooth doesn’t work.
4. RaspAnd Oreo can not yet run on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+.

AndEX Oreo 8.1 (Android-x86_64) – Build 180614 – with Google Play Store (and everything else) working very well!

NEWS 180614 about AndEX Oreo 8.1
My first build of AndEX Oreo 8.1 is from 180103. My second build is from 180202. My new build of Android x86_64 – andex_x86_64-oreo-8.1-gapps-windows-launchers-1050mb-180614.iso can be installed (manually) to hard drive or on a USB stick. You can also run the system live. I.e. from a DVD or a USB stick. On some computers you’ll have to start up AndEX 8.1 in compatibility mode (VESA) though. NOTE: You can run AndEX Oreo Build 180614 on newer laptops and Desktop computers. The sound and the video performance is generally very very good.

MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES IN BUILD 180614
Google Play Store now works as intended. As an alternative you can use Aptoide App Manager. Aptoide is not pre-installed, but you can very easy install it. Two nice special window launchers are pre-installed: Microsoft Launcher and OO Launcher. (OO Launcher is an enhanced Android™ O Oreo™ style launcher, with many useful enhanced launcher features). I’ve discovered a new way to manually install AndEX Oreo to hard drive. Very simple! Read more about it at the INFO site. You can now open up a terminal and become root with the command su root (which you couldn’t in previous versions of AndEX Oreo). Build 180614 uses kernel 4.9.95 with more support for various hardware.

Screenshot – AndEX Build 180614 – the Desktop with Win 10 Launcher for Android 8.1 Oreo – with several extra apps (games) – Koi Video Live Wallpaper, Air Fighters, Popcorn Time, Wild Hunt, Racing In Car 2, Drift Clash and Fishing Club 3D – not pre-installed.

ExTiX 18.6, Build 180602, with KDE 4.16.12 together with KDE Frameworks 5.44.0, Refracta Tools and kernel 4.15.0-23-exton

I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 18.6 KDE Live DVD. (The previous version was 17.5 from 170508). The best thing with ExTiX 18.6 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Tools (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. So easy that a ten year child can do it!

ABOUT
ExTiX 18.6
KDE DVD 64 bit is based on Debian 9 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed KDE Frameworks 5.44.0 with KDE 4.16.12. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms.

The system language is ENGLISH.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.15.0-23-exton.

What’s new in Linux kernel 4.15?

NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 18.6 Build 180602 with the KDE Desktop environment and Refracta Tools
1. ExTiX KDE is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver. KDE 4.16.12 is used as Desktop environment. All packages have been updated to the latest version by 180602. Kernel 4.15.0-23-exton is used.
2. I have removed Google Chrome. It is now possible to watch Netflix movies in Firefox.
3. I have installed BlueGriffon Web Editor. BlueGriffon is a new WYSIWYG content editor for the World Wide Web. Powered by Gecko, the rendering engine of Firefox, it’s a modern and robust solution to edit Web pages in conformance to the latest Web Standards. Only to be compared with Dreamweaver. (In my opinion).
4. Other included important/useful packages are: LibreOffice, Thunderbird, GParted, Brasero, SMPlayer, GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Furthermore “all” multimedia codecs. Everything the average Linux user could wish for I would say.
5. The best thing with ExTiX 18.6 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Tools (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. Very easy to do.

CruxEX 2018 – a live build of CRUX 3.4 released 180512 – with LXDE and kernel 4.16.9

NEWS ABOUT CruxEX Build 180520
My previous build of CruxEX is from 180321. After that CRUX had released version 3.4 on May 12, 2018 I simply had to rebuild CruxEX. All packages have been upgraded to the latest available version (with prt-get sysup). Furthermore: This version of CruxEX uses kernel 4.16.9 released 180516! And of course Google Chrome for Netflix! Install my new version of CruxEX 3.4 64bit from 180520 to a USB Pen Drive and run the system superfast from RAM – read this INSTRUCTION.

CruxEX 3.4 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.4 (latest version, released 180512), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.4 2018 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 4.14.20 with “my” special kernel 4.16.9-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel and installed packages
Kernel 4.16.9 is the latest available stable kernel as of 180520. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, Google Chrome (for Netflix), Spotify (a must-have!), GParted, PCManFM, Gimp and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source. Note: Spotify and  Google Chrome are not in the CRUX repositories.

Unique
CruxEX 3.4 2018 build 180520 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX superfast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 min and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like.

About Linux For All (LFA) Build 180504
The system is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Debian. It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system.

NEWS ABOUT LFA Build 180504
1. This is a very BIG system (2020MB). All packages the ordinary Linux user can wish for are pre-installed. Study the full packages list.

3. I have installed Nvidia’s latest proprietary graphics driver 390.48.
4. The Desktop environment is LXDEDesigned to be user friendly and slim, while keeping the resource usage low.
5. The main Web Browser is Google Chrome. So you can watch Netflix!

MeX 64 bit Linux based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Cinnamon 3.6.7 – Build 180426

NEWS/CHANGES 180426
Mex Linux is no longer based on Linux Mint. MeX Build 180426 is based only on Debian and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Long Term Support). I have replaced the original kernel with “my” special kernel 4.15.0-19-exton. All packages in MeX Linux have been upgraded to the latest version by 180426. This version of MeX uses Cinnamon 3.6.7. Linux Mint 18.3 also uses Cinnamon 3.6.7 as Desktop environment.

MORE MeX NEWS 180426
1. The MeX ISO is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive.
2. Another big improvement is that MeX now can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 4 (load to RAM). When the system has booted up you can eject the disc (DVD)/USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run MeX that way. The ISO file is of only 990 MB so MeX will run superfast from RAM!
3. I have replaced Google Chrome with Firefox. Google Chrome is no longer needed to be able to run Netflix in Linux.
4. The best thing with this new MeX build – Create your own installable Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Live DVD with Refracta tools (pre-installed)! The whole “remasterprocess” is so simple that a 10 year old child can do it.

Important about Refracta
You can use the Refracta tools (pre-installed in MeX Build 180426) to create your own installable Ubuntu Live DVD once you have installed MeX to hard drive. I mean change everything and then create a whole new Ubuntu 18.04 live system.

USB installations
When running MeX live (from a USB stick or DVD) you can install MeX to a USB stick using the regular installation program Refracta Installer. Then (of course) all your system changes will be permanent. Watch this slideshow.
